A large country garden
Planting for an award winning house in Berkshire
Occasionally we take on a project that brings us and the client so much joy that we can't let it go. It was this garden that finally resulted in our setting up Your Lovely Garden Maintenance Ltd to look after gardens we've designed and installed.
The client had already planned their garden layout before they asked us to take over the planting. The garden had been stripped back and planting would be key to settling the house into the landscape and complementing the, now award winning, renovation and extension project designed by Heighway Associates Architects. We worked on an 80m grass border for the grass bank, pretty layered planting for the house borders and some carefully selected and placed trees to complement the orchard, screen certain views and offer balance to grounds.
Planting on deep clay is always a challenge, however, structured tree pits, gravel underlays (hurrah - lavender hedges on clay) and some mindful planning produced some very pretty layered plantings.
