Edwardian garden in Cookham

An Edwardian country garden

A garden for a beautiful renovation project in Cookham, Berkshire

In 2018 we started work on a really exciting project for a fabulous interior designer.  A re-build of a beautiful old Edwardian house with a new annexe building needed to be settled into the landscape reflecting the needs and style of the house and family.   The result was a garden planted as rooms with great borders, sculpted tiered beds and lots of play space for all the family.

Good garden design magics away the troublesome practical elements.  For this garden: the change in levels immediately off of the main terrace, a large car park and uncompromising paths between buildings.  Well placed lines and softly under-layered architectural planting allowed this building site to quickly evolve into an established garden.

Below see the working design, build in progress, the narrow, steep tiered beds and their planting.

Client testimonial

"Working with Tania and her team is always a delight. Her planting plans are meticulously thought through, and our garden now brings us so much joy. Her careful planning and sourcing has given us a garden that really does keep giving, and every month brings us new buds and colours to enjoy. She answered our brief precisely and came up with a design and scheme that was exactly as we envisioned, and her plant knowledge has, and continues , to teach us so much. One of the things that surprised us was how 'mature' our garden looked so quickly, despite the fact that we first met her on our building site! I recommend her often to friends and clients and they too have always been overjoyed"
